Middle-aged publishing mogul William Randolph Hearst (Robert Mitchum) begins an affair with teen showgirl Marion Davies (Virginia Madsen), a relationship that inspires endless gossip because of their age difference and Hearst’s marital status. Hearst asks his wife, Millicent (Caroline Yeager), for a divorce, but when she refuses, he carries on with the affair for many years. Eventually, Hearst starts a movie production company, which develops several films starring Davies.
